the fundamentals of the guitar
Firstly, we will help you learn the basics of the guitar. We’ll work on proper technique, breathing, posture, and sound production, and we will send you home after each lesson with accessible, fun, and effective practice techniques that you can use on your own. We can even start working on real pieces of music with you right away.

We help our students understand and appreciate music on a deep level. You will learn note reading right away, and we’ll work on counting, rhythm, time signatures, and musical form. In short, we want you to have the most solid foundation possible as you pursue excellence.

Some teachers help their students learn pieces by rote – that is, you would drill passages until they become part of your “muscle memory.” That is effective, but we want you to understand the nuts and bolts of the music you are playing. We’ll tackle key signatures, major and minor modes, transposition, and so much more, and we can get as in-depth about music theory as you would like.

As an extension of the music theory training, you will be able to write and improvise your own music. We can help you write folk songs, compose guitar music, or learn the fundamentals of ear playing and improvisation in various genres.
